The Formation and Evolution of Globular Cluster Systems and Their Host Galaxies

Steve Zepf (Michigan State)

I will present some new results on the properties of globular cluster systems and discuss the implications of these results for the formation history of their host galaxies. Some of the new results include constraints on formation models for globular clusters based on the properties of observed young clusters, constraints on the formation epoch(s) of elliptical galaxies from the ages of their globular cluster populations, and constraints on some galaxy formation mechanisms from the kinematics of globular cluster systems.
