Morphologies and Spectral Properties of Luminous, Red Galaxies at z ~ 1
Lin Yan (IPAC/SIRTF)
I will present the results from two surveys which were aimed to study
the detailed morphological and spectral properties of red galaxies at
redshift of 1. The sample in these studies were selected using
optical/near-IR color (I - K) redder than 4 and are the candidates of
galaxies with old stellar population at z > 1. Using the high
resolution HST images, we measured the morphological properties of our
sample. In addition, we obtained deep optical spectra of the sources
in our sample using the Low Resolution Imager and Spectrograph on the
keck. I will summarize the implication of our results on the
formation and evolution massive galaxies since redshift of 1.
