When Galaxies Collide: Massive Clouds and Massive Star Formation in
the "Antennae" Galaxies
Christine Wilson (McMaster University)
The pair of colliding galaxies known as the "Antennae" is the closest
example of a major merger between two large spiral galaxies. One of the
unexpected products of this collision has been the formation of hundreds
of young, massive star clusters. In my talk, I will present a
multi-wavelength view of the Antennae system which we have used to try to
understand the effects of galaxy collisions on the structure and star
formation in the original galaxies.
